MTD Crew in front of the award-winning entry! Best in Show 2012!

Last Saturday, November 24 was the twelfth year for the Parade of Lights in downtown Champaign. This is the second year that the Champaign Center Partnership coordinated the event. Stay updated on their other community events by liking their Facebook page (ours, too)!

The parade capped off an entire day of “shop local” events and specials offered by businesses in downtown Champaign, Midtown, and Campustown. When the sun went down, the lights went up as 34 entries marched in the parade. The route wrapped around from Main to Neil to Washington. The 20 Red, 30 Lavender, 50 Green, 70 Grey, and 100 Yellow were rerouted from 3-8 pm.

MTD enters a float every year. This year’s design was a home decorated for the holidays accompanied by a yard just as festive. Characters on the float included Rudolph and his gal pal, Clarice; Charlie Brown and his friends Snoopy and Woodstock; a pair of penguins and polar bears; a waving Elmo; and a proud snowman stood front and center.

MTD wishes you a Happy Holiday Season!

Two employees from our Maintenance Department logged lots of extra hours to make our festive float come to light. We were thrilled to be awarded “Best in Show!”
